“Fonts in a Box”
Monotype Imaging’s Fonts in a Box™ innovation enables the full display of characters with extended attributes including accent marks and descenders, such as the lowercase y. The technology opens typographic opportunity for OEMs, developers and content creators, allowing them to integrate stylistic, scalable fonts with the assurance that all characters will display properly.
Fonts in a Box technology solves a difficult challenge for mobile phones: On cell phone screens, characters are subject to height restrictions, whereas in desktop environments, character components extending above or below the bounding box will display in full. However, mobile phones require that each character fit predictably into a limited amount of space to be fully viewable. Characters that normally extend beyond the boundary are intelligently reshaped using Fonts in a Box technology to appear properly proportioned and positioned next to adjacent characters.
